Web Wednesday

Web Wednesday was suspended this week.  Can you tell?  LOL!  It's been a super crazy week, so honestly, I didn't explore the internet that much, but tune in next week and I will share what I've stumbled upon around the net.

I almost forgot about Web Wednesday.  Therefore, I am pretending today is still Wednesday.  Here's where I've been around the web lately... Danger Pay for the Military This is a link to an article in Stars and Stripes talking about doing away with danger pay for service member assigned to certain posts.  Danger pay is a boost in their paycheck when they are stationed to places or waterways where they could be in imminent danger.  This kind of stuff really irritates me.  I understand that our government needs to trim wasteful spending and I do believe there is a lot of wasteful spending being done.  I do NOT believe this is one of those situations.  Our service men and women don't exactly get paid loads to do the job (voluntarily) of defending our country.  They are often apart from their families and in dangerous situations - why would they take this benefit away from them? Creative Consequences This article made me roll my eyes and smile.  I think the victim of the t

52 Weeks of Walking - Week 2

Week 1 went very well.  My results:  Sunday: 15 min   Actual: 15 min 1384 steps for the walk  3935 steps for the day Monday: 10 min   Actu al : 10.5 min 943 steps for the walk 4594 steps for the day Tuesday:15 min   Actu al :  1st Walk: 20 min 2171 steps for the walk, 2nd Walk:   60 min 6585 steps for the walk 11350 steps for the day Wednesday: 10 min Actual: 60 min 5391 steps for the walk 9735 steps for the day Thursday: 15 min Actua l :  60 min 6714 steps for the walk 13135 for the day Friday: Off  Actua l :   15 min 1485 steps for the walk 8097 steps for the day Saturday: 20 min  Actua l :   off 4275 steps for the day (YIKES!) So, with the exception of the first 2 days, I walked more than the suggested amount.  Mondays are always hard for me to get a long walk in and Tuesday I was simply lazy.  It is eye opening how hard it is, even when you get a 60 minute walk in, to get 11,000 steps per day.  I need to work on moving more throughout the day.  That's hard to do wh

52 Weeks of Walking

I've started walking for exercise at the beginning of this year.  I walked about 50% of January, a little more than that in February, but really got consistent in March.  I usually even walk more than once a day. However, there isn't much structure and no real end goal other than the all-encompassing goal of losing weight.  (which by the way hasn't moved much considering how much walking I have been doing) One day I was rummaging through some old books on the shelf and found this book that I bought a million years ago.  It's called  The Complete Guide to Walking  and it has a 52 week walking plan in it.  The first few weeks, maybe even months are too easy for me since I've been walking long enough already to be beyond 10 minute walks.  I decided to go ahead and start at week 1 anyways.  First, I'm of the opinion that the beginning is a good place to start.  Second, there are always days when I mess up and don't get a steady walk in all day.  If I follow the

I really need to work on firework photos.  There's always next year.  We almost didn't go this year, but I pushed everyone and they were all very happy that I did.

It's that time of the week again.  Following are places I visited around the internet recently, which I found interesting. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/06/27/can-you-really-beat-the-heat-with-a-20-d-i-y-air-conditioner-we-give-it-a-try/ I think this would be a fun experiment to do with the boys.  We just bought the cooler, just need the fan.  We already have the ice and the PVC. http://www.humorisreasongonemad.com/3m/ This one just made me smile.  How could it not? http://www.buzzfeed.com/regajha/31-signs-youre-a-third-culture-kid This had me nodding and smiling and totally agreeing.  I am very much a third culture kid.  I wasn't even born in my passport country.  In case you don't know: http://www.heightadjustableworktable.com/ I seriously want one of these.  I am saving, saving, saving.  I would love to be able to work or scrapbook while standing, but not have to do it all the time.  See the crank on the right?  That is to raise an

Hot Rod Power Tour

At the last minute we decided to go to the Hot Rod Power Tour car show.  I'm glad we went.  It was a nice day for it.  Cloudy and sprinkling on and off.  There were a lot of gorgeous cars there.  The boys spent their time calling out which cars were "theirs".  LOL!
