Hormone Therapy
So, Bryan finally started hormone therapy about a month ago. He is currently below the thrid percentile according to his age. His body produces enough hormone, but something just isn't receiving it. So, his endo. recommended him to take part in a study on kids who have Idiopathic Short Stature. He is now going through hormone therapy and will be for the next four years. I am so relieved - I am hoping he will catch up to his peers in height. Right now he is a head to a head and a half shorter than all his friends. It doesn't bother him for the moment, but I think as he reaches his teen years, it may start to affect him.
The kit looks like this:
Bryan is such a good sport about it! He was not happy at first and questioned my qualifications for administering any kind of injections, but we have made the most of it. It's funny because whenever we have rotated to his left butt cheek, he always yells "LEFT CHEEK, LEFT CHEEK, LEFT CHEEK!!!" ala the Transformers Movie.
We marked his starting height on the wall on the first day of the therapy and we are hoping to see some progress soon. They told us the most growth will happen the first and second year. I feel like he is growing, but that could be wishful thinking...
